4 - a Creative Collaboration called North and South ...

4 is a part of a two-year long creative project led by drama practitioner and playwright, Nicola McCartney in Paisley.  It aimed to showcase and celebrate the spirit, aspirations and creativity of young people who do not normally have ready access to or experience of the creative process and creative people.

You can see the difference the project made in this short film:

The project took place for the first time in Possil too with Young Peoples Futures, where the artists in residence were sound artist Duncan Chapman and photographer and film-maker Basharat Khan.  The sound outputs created by the young people, called from 'Possilpark to Cove Park', featured on Radiophrenia, BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4 and of the deeply personal creative writing developed, some have remained private while others have been dramatised and filmed.

4 was a two-year long experience, co-created and directed by the interests of the young people themselves and inspired by their language and stories, whether sung, spoken, written, filmed or digital.  It was funded by  Creative Scotland, Renfrewshire Council, the Flightpath Fund, the Commonweal Fund, Glasgow Life and The Robertson Trust.  4 was also supported by Young People's Futures and Neighbourhood Watch Scotland.

From 20 March 2020, our North and South Collective connected online with artist in residence Steven Grainger.  They continued to share creative ideas, as well as develop their friendships, over the lock-down weeks in Articulate's virtual space.  Their Blank Canvas // 4 // North and South exhibition features new works and fresh perspectives on our world now.  Read our blog here, enjoy their exhibition notes by Clare Sawers here and immerse yourself in their 2D and 3D gallery exhibitions below.
