Refresh: Painting & Placemaking

In our third block of Refresh for 2026, we will focus on Painting and Placemaking with artist Beth Shapeero.

In this six-week block, we'll reflect on experiences of change - new environments, unfamiliar surroundings - and the mix of emotions this can bring, from uncertainty and loss, to excitement, renewal and new beginnings. This is an incredibly important theme to explore as part of the Articulate community, as we begin planning for our move to the McLellan Galleries - our new home - later this year.

Working collaboratively during these sessions, our participants will contribute to creating an ambitious large-scale hanging, one that we envision will decorate our new space. These sessions will take a playful approach to image-making: focusing on abstraction, the exploration of material, and building confidence through experimentation, allowing ideas to emerge without pressure.
